Troop & Trap Levels

There are 4 levels (or tiers) of troops and traps that correspond with the research you are able to do at different Stronghold levels.  
 
TROOPS
Tier 1 - Basic Power - Infantry Swordsmen, Ranged Slingers, Cavalry Outriders, Siege Battering Ram
Only useful in battle against other tier 1's
 
Tier 2 - Medium Power - Infantry Hoplites, Ranged Skirmish Archers, Light Cavalry, Siege Ballista
Useful in battle against tier 1's and other tier 2's
 
Tier 3 - Strong Power - Infantry Armored Pikeman, Ranged Guardians, Companion Cavalry, Siege Tower
Can start research at Stronghold level 15
Exceptionally useful in battle against tier 1's and tier 2's
Match against other tier 3's - having strength over opponents will depend on other research levels and hero set-up
 
Tier 4 - Immense Power - Infantry Immortals, Ranged Marksmen, Cavalry War Elephants, Siege Onager
Can start research at Stronghold level 21
Will overpower all other tiers ...... SHIELD!!!
 
 
TRAPS
Tier 1 - Basic Power - War Bricks, Archer Tower, Spikes, Boiling Tar
Fairly weak, especially the war bricks
 
Tier 2 - Medium Power - Snares, Turret, Steam Cannons
Snares and Steam Cannons more effective than tier 1 traps
 
Tier 3 - Strong Power - Caltrops, Catapults, Burning Rocks
Can start research at Stronghold level 15
Burning Rocks particularly effective
 
Tier 4 - Immense Power - Spiked Barricades, Trebuchets, Greek Fire
Can start research at Stronghold level 21
Only tier 4 troops effective against tier 4 traps
