Attack Preparation
There are various circumstances where you may attack others, or lead an attack rally. However, all members are required to familiarise themselves with the Alliance Code and ensure any attacks they initiate or lead are approved, and do not contravene the code.
It is also highly recommended that you scout your intended target before attacking, so that you can configure your attack appropriate to the target's trap and troop numbers and level. The higher your scouting research level is, the more information about your potential target you will gain from your scouting reports.
Lastly, attack boosts (available for purchase in the alliance store with loyalty points, or in items with gold) will enhance the overall impact of your attack.
Targets
As a general rule, you should only every rally on or single march attack on Strongholds that are no more than 2 levels below you. You will need to use your judgment regarding Strongholds that are a higher level than you, particularly whether they have higher tiers of troops and traps than you do (see the Troop and Trap Levels Page for more information). Over time, you will gain a greater understanding of how well matched you are against a potential target, and therefore whether you think you have enough advantage over the target to be victorious.
For example, if your target has 150,000 tier 3 troops and traps, and you have 150,000 tier 2 troops, you are likely to do some damage, but unlikely to be victorious in a single march attack. However in a rally, you will have far more success against a stronger target than you - strength in numbers!
Also consider how far away the target is and how long your attacking march will take to get there. The further away they are, the more likely they are to shield before you arrive.
Rally Attacks
If you lead a rally attack, it is your hero boosts that count towards the effectiveness of the whole rally, regardless of how many other players have joined the rally or what boosts they may individually have. Therefore it is important that you have prepared your hero accordingly (refer to the Your Hero Pages for more information), and that you remember to send your hero with your attacking army.
The size of your Hall of War will dictate the total number of troops that can join your rally. If you seek to be a fighter in your alliance, it is strongly recommended that you invest in upgrading your Hall of War. However, bear in mind that the higher you level up your Hall, the more costly it is.
When you initiate a rally, firstly ensure you advise others in Alliance Chat and find out whether there are others available to join the rally. Secondly consider how long it will take your fellow alliance members to march to your Stronghold, and ensure you set an appropriate "time to march".
Single March Attacks
Preparing your Hero for attack and including your Hero in your attack march may make the difference between defeat and victory. Always configure your attack march according to the traps and troops in your target's Stronghold, and you would have gained information on this from scouting their city.
Siege weapons are the best troops to use against traps, so if your target has a large number of traps, match your siege accordingly. The level of your Stronghold will determine the size of the attack march you can send, so if you're having to send a lot of siege, be prepared for the possibility of having to send a second march to attack remaining troops and claim an overall victory.
Captured Heroes
If you and your target have a level 10 Stronghold or higher, and you have built a prison in your city, you will end up capturing the target's hero in the event of a complete victory. Only those with a level 15 Stronghold or higher can execute a captured hero, and only if the hero's owner has a level 15 Stronghold or higher. You must seek permission from your leader if you intend to execute a hero, and permission is only likely to be granted if the hero's owner is inactive and unallied (there may be exceptions, so make sure you check!). All heroes captured whose owners are allied, must be freed (unless otherwise approved).
